1. Acceptance of Terms
By clicking "I Agree and Start Recording" and using the Kolokwa Voice Collection platform at liberiankolokwa.com, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Contribution. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to contribute to Kolokwa. By participating, you confirm that you meet this age requirement and have the legal capacity to agree to these terms.
3. What You Are Contributing
When you use Kolokwa, you contribute voice recordings of yourself reading provided Kolokwa (Liberian English) phrases. Each recording captures your voice speaking a specific sentence or phrase displayed on screen.
4. License Grant
By submitting a voice recording, you grant to the Kolokwa Project a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, irrevocable license to:
- Store, copy, and distribute your recordings as part of an open-source dataset.
- Use your recordings for training machine learning models, including but not limited to speech recognition, natural language processing, and text-to-speech systems.
- Publish your recordings as part of a publicly available research dataset.
- Allow third parties to use the dataset containing your recordings for research, development, and commercial purposes.
- Create derivative works from the dataset.
This license survives any deletion request with respect to copies already distributed as part of published dataset releases.
5. Voluntary Participation
Your participation is entirely voluntary. You may stop recording at any time by simply closing your browser. There is no obligation to complete any number of recordings, and there is no compensation for contributions.
6. Content Guidelines
You agree that your recordings will:
- Contain only you reading the provided phrase.
- Not contain offensive, harmful, or illegal content beyond the provided text.
- Not contain personal information about yourself or others.
- Not infringe on any third party's intellectual property rights.
We reserve the right to review and reject any recording that violates these guidelines.
7. Quality Standards
Recordings may be automatically checked for quality (duration, volume, clarity). Recordings that do not meet minimum quality standards may be flagged for review or rejected. Quality checks are performed automatically and are not a judgment of your speaking ability.
8. Data Deletion
You may request deletion of your recordings at any time through our data deletion page. Requests will be processed within 30 days. Note that:
- Recordings will be removed from our servers and excluded from future dataset releases.
- Copies already distributed as part of published datasets cannot be recalled from third parties.
- Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
9. Privacy
Your use of Kolokwa is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your data. The Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Kolokwa platform is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, error-free operation, or that the platform will meet your specific requirements.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Kolokwa Project and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the platform or contribution of recordings.
12. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms of Contribution from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. If material changes are made, returning contributors will be asked to re-consent.
13. Contact
If you have questions about these Terms, please contact us through the project website at liberiankolokwa.com.
